Magistrate Nickolas K. McCoy

Nickolas (Nick) K. McCoy was admitted by the Supreme Court of Ohio to practice law in November 2009 after earning his Juris Doctor degree from Capital University Law School. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a minor in Business Administration from Ohio University. Before entering the legal field, Nick worked as a Project Engineer in the automotive industry, a Mechanical Designer in the food processing equipment industry, and as a Mechanical Engineer in the aerospace and defense sector.


Currently, Nick serves as a Magistrate in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas - Juvenile and Probate Division. Prior to his appointment, he practiced law for nearly 16 years, representing moms and dads, sons and daughters, and their small businesses in all courts in Delaware County and in numerous courts throughout central and southeastern Ohio. A significant portion of his career involved protecting and advocating for the most vulnerable people in our communities as a Court Appointed Guardian for both adults and children and as a Guardian ad Litem in custody matters and cases involving abuse, neglect, and dependency.


Nick's former law practice concentrated on areas such as estate planning, elder law, guardianships, estate administration, domestic relations, and real estate, in addition to Guardian ad Litem work and general client representation. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and has previously served as a two term President of the Delaware County Bar Association. Furthermore, he spent 12 years on the Board of Trustees for the Delaware County District Library and four years on the Delaware County Public Defender Commission. Currently, he is an active member of the Orange Township Board of Zoning Appeals. 


Nick and his wife Jennifer, a Special Education teacher at Delaware Hayes High School, have three children. The couple is also dedicated to their community, being active members at Genoa Church.
